São Paulo FC expels former president Júlio Casares

The Deliberative Council of São Paulo FC has voted to expel former president Júlio Casares from the club's membership following allegations of reckless and irregular management. The decision, passed with an overwhelming majority, follows a recommendation from the club's Ethics Committee regarding Casares's tenure from January 2021 to January 2026.

Key allegations include approximately R$ 7 million in unexplained cash withdrawals and roughly R$ 1 million in corporate card expenses. The Ethics Committee report detailed personal expenditures at luxury establishments, including restaurants, cigar shops, and beauty salons. Casares is also under investigation by the Civil Police and the Public Ministry.

The club is seeking financial restitution for damages, with the final amount to be determined by the finance department and validated by the Fiscal Council. Casares's defense has characterized the process as “abusivo” (abusive) and politically motivated, claiming his right to defense was restricted due to a lack of access to necessary documentation.
