São Paulo fog causes flight cancellations and port closure
Heavy fog in São Paulo caused significant disruptions to air and maritime traffic on Saturday. At Congonhas Airport, at least 27 flights were canceled, including 12 arrivals and 15 departures, though the terminal remained operational for landings and takeoffs.
At Guarulhos International Airport, five flights were diverted to other locations and one was canceled. Viracopos International Airport received nine diverted flights, including seven from Congonhas, one from Guarulhos, and one from Belo Horizonte/Confins. Major airlines, including Gol, Latam, and Azul, reported various cancellations, diversions, and delays, with passengers being relocated to alternative flights.
In addition to aviation issues, the Port of Santos was closed by the Capitania dos Portos due to visibility dropping below 500 meters. Several ferry crossings, including those between Santos and Guarujá and Cananéia and Ilha Comprida, were also temporarily suspended before being cleared.
