São Paulo free flow toll drivers seek minimal fine reimbursements

Fewer than 1% of drivers in São Paulo have requested reimbursements for toll evasion fines issued under the free flow electronic system. Following the cancellation of approximately 267,000 infractions due to system integration issues, only 580 drivers—roughly 0.2% of those affected—have applied for a refund of the R$ 195.23 penalty.

The suspension of these fines was ordered by the National Transit Council (Contran) in April to allow for better system adaptation and integration. Drivers who have not yet paid the toll have until November 16 to settle the amount to ensure the fine is canceled.

For federal highways, reimbursement requests must be submitted virtually via the gov.br portal or the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) Electronic Information System (SEI). For state highways, requests should be directed to the respective regulatory agencies or transit authorities. Recent system improvements include the ability to consult records via the CNH do Brasil app and make payments through WhatsApp.
