São Paulo gubernatorial candidates sign AI and disinformation pact

Candidates for the 2026 São Paulo state government have signed an agreement with the Regional Electoral Court of São Paulo (TRE-SP) to defend the integrity and transparency of the electoral process. The commitment focuses on combating disinformation, political violence, and ensuring the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) to avoid deceiving voters.

Participants in the signing included several political figures, such as Tarcísio de Freitas and Márcio França. TRE-SP President José Antônio Encinas Manfré stated that the court's actions are intended to preserve the legitimacy of the process and respect constitutional guarantees rather than act as censorship.

Separately, legal expert and constitutional law professor Pedro Serrano has warned of the risks posed by AI in electoral campaigns. Serrano emphasized the need for the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) to quickly establish clear parameters regarding manipulated content, such as deepfake images and videos, to prevent legal insecurity and the proliferation of materials designed to confuse the electorate.
