São Paulo International Film Festival celebrates 50 years
The São Paulo International Film Festival is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Over its history, the festival has screened 11,692 films from 8,474 filmmakers worldwide, introducing international cinema to Brazilian audiences.
Journalist Ubiratan Brasil recalled a notable moment from the 16th edition in 1992 at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (Masp). He attended a screening of ‘Reservoir Dogs’ where the director, then an unknown Quentin Tarantino, was present in a room with only 16 attendees. The festival has since hosted renowned directors such as Wim Wenders, Pedro Almodóvar, Manoel de Oliveira, Amos Gitai, and Jafar Panahi.
