São Paulo retains Taça das Bolinhas as court rejects Flamengo appeal

On 5–6 August 2026 the Tribunal de Justiça do Rio de Janeiro denied Clube de Regatas do Flamengo’s request to reconsider the decision that keeps the Taça das Bolinhas with São Paulo Futebol Clube. The ruling, delivered by Justice Fábio Uchoa Pinto de Miranda Montenegro, reaffirmed the earlier recognition of Sport Club do Recife as the 1987 Brazilian champion and invoked the principle of res judicata, stating the dispute had already been settled by higher courts. The trophy, created by the CBF in 1975 for the first club to win three consecutive or five alternating Brasileirão titles, therefore remains the property of São Paulo, which may still seek physical possession. The trophy continues to be stored under the custody of Caixa Econômica Federal.
