São Paulo launches agroecological transition protocol for producers

The São Paulo Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply, through the Integral Technical Assistance Coordination (CATI), offers a voluntary Agroecological Transition Protocol. This initiative provides producers with up to five years of technical monitoring to transition from conventional farming to agroecological practices.

The process begins at a local Agriculture House, where an extensionist performs a property diagnosis and creates a customized plan. This plan evaluates nine key areas, including soil conservation, erosion control, organic matter increase, crop diversification, water use, pest management, environmental adequacy, and waste disposal. All data is recorded in the SISRURAL system.

Depending on their progress, farmers can receive a Declaration for initial stages or a Certificate for advanced stages where GMOs and prohibited fertilizers are no longer used. These documents are valid for one year and can be used to facilitate sales in markets, fairs, and institutional procurement processes.
