São Paulo FC faces debt crisis and political protests

São Paulo Futebol Clube is facing significant internal turmoil involving financial, administrative, and political crises. Olten Ayres de Abreu, president of the Deliberative Council, estimated that the club's debt may have exceeded R$ 1 billion, criticizing the current management as “absolutely amateur.”

In response to proposed statutory reforms, the Torcida Independente organized a protest at the Morumbi stadium to demand direct elections for the club presidency and the end of life-long council memberships. While several fan groups, including Falange Tricolor, signed a manifesto against the current political concentration in the Council, the Dragões da Real group declined to join the movement.

On the pitch, the club is undergoing roster changes. Left-back Enzo Díaz has been sidelined from training and is seeking a new club following disagreements regarding salary delays and performance. Additionally, midfielder Hugo has been loaned to Japan's Mito Hollyhock until early 2027.
