São Paulo Metro extends 24-hour weekend service until 2027

The São Paulo Metro has announced the extension of its experimental 24-hour weekend operation until January 31, 2027. The continuous service applies to Lines 1-Blue, 2-Green, 3-Red, and 15-Silver, allowing uninterrupted passenger boarding and alighting during the early morning hours from Saturday to Sunday.

Since the initiative began in December 2025, the system has recorded approximately 665,000 overnight trips, averaging 15,800 passengers per night. Line 3-Red has seen the highest usage with 345,400 trips, followed by Line 2-Green, Line 1-Blue, and Line 15-Silver. Most users utilize the service for leisure, while approximately 27% use it for work-related travel.

The Metro is monitoring demand patterns and the impact of continuous operation on maintenance schedules to inform future service decisions. The 24-hour service does not currently include Lines 4-Yellow and 5-Lilac, which are managed by private concessionaires, nor does it extend to CPTM commuter train lines.

Separately, CPTM has scheduled maintenance work for the upcoming weekend on Lines 10-Turquoise and 12-Safira, which will result in platform changes and increased waiting times for passengers.
