São Paulo man arrested for killing daughters, 3 and 5

Breno de Souza Castro, 24, was arrested in São Paulo after confessing to the suffocation and murder of his two daughters, aged 3 and 5, Isis Helena and Lais Heloiza Alves de Souza. The children's bodies were discovered inside a car on Sunday, August 10, following Castro's surrender to a police station.

Investigations suggest the motive may have been to punish the children's mother, a practice referred to as 'vicariocide'. The mother, Nayra Santos, reported that she and Castro had been separated for approximately five months following a history of physical aggression and infidelity. The children had been left with their paternal grandmother for the Father's Day weekend.

Records indicate that Castro had previously been imprisoned for robbery in 2023 but was released on parole in late 2025 due to 'good behavior.' As part of his conditional release, he was required to adhere to specific curfew restrictions. Following a custody hearing on Monday, his arrest was converted to preventive detention. He faces charges of double qualified homicide and domestic violence.
