Paranaíta homicide investigation: Brother suspected of killing sibling over political differences

A man is suspected of killing his brother during a dispute at a bar in the Santa Marta community, located in the rural area of Paranaíta, Mato Grosso. The victim, 52-year-old Gilmar Rodrigues da Silva, was shot multiple times and died at the scene.

The suspect, 60-year-old Laércio Antônio da Silva, allegedly initiated the confrontation by insulting his brother. Witnesses reported that Gilmar attempted to leave the establishment to avoid the argument, but was shot as he stood up. Investigators from the Mato Grosso Civil Police are looking into political disagreements involving Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro as a potential motive for the crime.

Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene in a black Fiat Titano pickup truck. Police later located the abandoned vehicle in the Renascer neighborhood of Alta Floresta. Authorities believe the suspect abandoned the vehicle and continued his escape on foot. Law enforcement continues to search the region for the suspect, who remains at large.
