São Paulo military police convicted of criminal organization
Five military police officers, including one retired sergeant, have been convicted by the Military Justice of São Paulo for crimes including criminal organization, usury, and extortion. The convictions follow an investigation by the Military Police Internal Affairs department in Rio Preto.
The sentences vary by individual. Former sergeant Alan Victor Soares received the heaviest sentence of 20 years, 3 months, and 15 days in a closed regime. Soldier Luís Guilherme Silva Pavani was sentenced to 15 years and 9 months in a closed regime. Sergeant Rafael Soares received 6 years and 7 months in a semi-open regime, Corporal Carlos Henrique da Cruz Candido received 5 years and 3 months in a semi-open regime, and Sergeant Saint Clair Soares received 4 years and 4 months in a semi-open regime.
The group was suspected of participating in a criminal scheme involving homicide, violence, debt collection, and loan sharking. All five individuals will remain in custody following the decision.
