Sorocaba police approach leads to assault on woman with baby
Police in Sorocaba, São Paulo, opened an internal investigation after security‑camera footage captured a contentious approach at an adega in the Jardim Amorim neighborhood. During the operation, a woman attempted to intervene when a man was pulled by a police officer, lost her balance and fell to the ground while holding an infant. She then slapped a police officer’s helmet; the officer responded with a punch to her face. The incident was recorded as a crime of resistance in the police report.
The São Paulo Military Police and the State Secretariat of Public Security said the inquiry will examine all circumstances, including the use of force protocol (M‑3) and the video evidence. The woman, who was not identified, was taken to a police station, cited, and later released. Authorities emphasized that the force does not tolerate misconduct and will impose strict measures for any violations.
