São Paulo Military Police open investigation after assault in Sorocaba bar

The Military Police of São Paulo initiated an internal investigation after security‑camera footage captured a physical confrontation during a police approach at a bar in the Jardim Amorim district of Sorocaba on Sunday. A man who refused to accompany the officers was pulled by his trousers, causing a nearby woman to lose balance and fall to the sidewalk while holding an infant. Moments later another officer collided with a second woman who had lifted the baby; she responded by slapping the officer’s helmet, and the officer retaliated with a punch to her face.

The 26‑year‑old woman was taken to a police station, charged with resistance, and later released. Police reports cited the “use of differentiated force” under Procedure M‑3 to contain the situation. The State Public Security Secretariat reiterated that the force does not tolerate excessive conduct and will punish any identified deviations. The investigation will review the video recordings and all circumstances of the incident.
