São Paulo monorail train hits crane on Line 15-Prata
A large crane collapsed onto the elevated tracks of the Line 15-Prata monorail in eastern São Paulo on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Shortly after the crane fell, a moving monorail train struck the equipment, causing parts of the structure to fall onto Avenida Professor Luiz Ignácio Anhaia Mello.
Emergency services, including the Fire Department and Civil Defense, responded to the scene. While the crane operator sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital, authorities confirmed that no passengers on the train were injured. All passengers were evacuated safely, and the involved train was removed for maintenance.
The accident caused significant local disruption, including damage to electrical wiring, a transformer, water pipes, and nearby property. The monorail service was suspended between the Vila Prudente and São Lucas stations, with the PAESE bus system deployed to transport affected commuters. Civil Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crane's collapse.
