São Paulo municipalities launch joint police operations to curb robberies and thefts

The city of Itapevi joined the state‑wide Operation Integra SP, a large‑scale security offensive that mobilised about 3,600 police, municipal guards and other agents across São Paulo. Coordinated by the 20th Metropolitan Military Police Battalion, the operation deployed 56 police officers, 16 four‑wheel vehicles, drones and real‑time licence‑plate reading technology. Authorities reported 300 people screened, 164 drivers inspected, two fugitives captured and dozens of traffic infractions and vehicle checks.

In the neighbouring municipality of Itapecerica da Serra, the local government carried out an "Operação Impacto" that brought together the municipal guard, Military Police and Civil Police. While no official result count was released, the city's security office highlighted a continued rise in crime, with robberies up 12.8% and total robberies‑plus‑thefts increasing 9.6% between January and April compared with the same period last year.

Both actions stress the emphasis on integrated police presence and proactive patrols to deter quick‑hit thefts by motorcyclists and organized robbery groups in the region.
