São Paulo municipalities launch tuberculosis detection campaigns

Municipalities in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, are conducting health campaigns to increase the detection and treatment of tuberculosis.

In Itapetininga, the ‘Fique Sabendo Tuberculose 2026’ campaign is running until September 30. The initiative involves epidemiological surveillance teams visiting various locations, including churches and health units, to offer sputum exams. Residents experiencing symptoms such as a persistent cough lasting more than three weeks, fever, night sweats, and weight loss are encouraged to seek testing.

Similarly, Taboão da Serra has launched a second phase of its ‘Intensification of Active Search for Tuberculosis Cases’ campaign, also scheduled through September 30. The local health department is focusing on early diagnosis to interrupt transmission chains. Health officials emphasize that tuberculosis is curable and that testing and treatment are provided free of charge through the Unified Health System (SUS).
