São Paulo Municipalities Restrict Vacations and Suspend Pension Fund Deductions

The mayor of Votorantim, Weber Manga, issued Decree No. 8.399 which limits municipal employees' vacation leave between 16 August and 31 December 2026. Only workers whose vacations are about to expire – the so‑called "mandatory vacations" – may take leave, in order to keep essential services such as schools and health centers fully staffed. Exceptions require approval from the secretaries of Health, Education, and Administration.

In Araçatuba, Mayor Lucas Zanatta signed Decree No. 24.607 suspending the 6 % payroll deduction for the municipal complementary pension fund. The change affects roughly 1,500 municipal workers and includes full reimbursement of amounts deducted since the fund's introduction in April. Employees who joined public service between December 2016 and November 2019 must submit a request to discontinue contributions; all other staff are automatically exempted.
