São Paulo parents released following infant abandonment

A couple arrested for abandoning their seven-month-old twins in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, has been granted provisional liberty without bail following a custody hearing. The parents were caught in flagrante after admitting they left the infants alone in their home to use drugs.

The children were discovered by Military Police after neighbors reported hearing their cries. Upon entering the residence, officers found the infants in poor condition, with one child on a bed and the other on the floor, both suffering from dirt and diaper rash. The children were subsequently taken to a pediatric hospital and placed under the care of the Guardianship Council.

The court has imposed several precautionary measures, including a prohibition on the parents approaching the children within 100 meters or contacting them through any means of communication. The couple faces charges of abandonment of an incapable person and mistreatment.
