Maria Corsato investigated after millions found in furniture
The Civil Police Corregedoria-Geral in São Paulo has launched an investigation into police delegate Maria Corsato after approximately R$ 1.2 million in Brazilian reais, $120,000 USD, and 12,675 euros were discovered hidden inside a puff (ottoman) at her sister's residence in Santo André.
The discovery occurred after Corsato's sister used a knife to open the furniture, prompting her to call the Military Police. Corsato claims the funds are part of an undeclared family inheritance from an aunt. However, her legal defense asserts that the sister was aware of the money and that the report stems from a domestic dispute, noting that the sister has also been named as an investigated party in the police report.
Corsato, who served at the 27th Police District in Campo Belo and recently ran as a state deputy candidate, is also facing scrutiny regarding her professional conduct. Previous reports highlighted a conflict with influencer and lawyer Deolane Bezerra, involving allegations of media persecution and abuse of authority.
