São Paulo postpones free‑flow electronic toll on Anchieta‑Imigrantes highway

The São Paulo state government and the state transport agency ARTESP have delayed the launch of the free‑flow electronic toll system on the Anchieta‑Imigrantes highway. The rollout, originally slated for 1 August, has been put on hold with no new start date announced.

The delay follows complaints from residents and indigenous communities near the Billings Reservoir, who would have been charged for daily trips because the originally planned toll‑gantry at km 38 of the Imigrantes ascent would have been on the only land access route. The government ordered the gantry to be relocated and a registration system for local‑resident exemption to be completed before operation.

While the equipment remains installed, it is presently only monitoring traffic and validating plates. When activated, drivers will pay R$ 20.30 in each direction—half the current single‑direction price of R$ 40.60—and motorcycles will be exempt. Existing manual toll plazas will continue to operate until the electronic system goes live.
