São Paulo pregnant woman undergoes emergency cesarean after rattlesnake bite

A 34-year-old pregnant woman, Vanderleia Leise Souza da Silva, underwent an emergency cesarean section in Fernandópolis, São Paulo, after being bitten by a rattlesnake. The accident occurred at a rural property near Indiaporã, where the woman, who was nearly eight months pregnant, accidentally stepped on the snake.

After receiving initial treatment and antivenom in Indiaporã and Ouroeste, the patient suffered severe allergic reactions to the medication, leading to respiratory distress and a drop in heart rate. She was urgently transferred to the Santa Casa de Fernandópolis, where doctors performed an immediate cesarean to prevent the snake venom from causing fetal complications.

The procedure was successful, resulting in the safe birth of her son, Samuel. Both mother and child have since been discharged and are reported to be out of danger.
