São Paulo proposes R$ 146.52 billion budget for 2027
The São Paulo City Hall has submitted a budget proposal for 2027 to the Municipal Chamber, totaling R$ 146.52 billion. Presented by Mayor Ricardo Nunes, the annual budget law project (PLOA) earmarks R$ 20.64 billion for investments, marking the highest amount ever proposed by the municipal administration for this category.
This investment figure represents a 6.6% increase over the 2026 budget and is four times larger than the R$ 5 billion projected in the 2021 budget. The administration stated that these funds are intended to finance public works, services, and equipment, with expected impacts on urban mobility and the reduction of inequalities. The city attributes the increase to recovered financial capacity without the need for tax hikes.
The proposal, designated as PL 752/2026, will undergo analysis by the Finance and Budget Committee. The legislative process includes 21 scheduled public hearings to discuss the distribution of resources with the population, with a final vote expected by the end of the year.
