São Paulo prosecutors seek robbery-homicide conviction in Sorocaba police shooting

The Public Prosecutor's Office of São Paulo (MPSP) is seeking a robbery-homicide conviction for Vitor dos Santos Alencar Conceição regarding the death of soldier Matheus Almeida Rodrigues in Sorocaba.

The incident occurred on April 11 during a police operation targeting four pharmacy robbery suspects. While three suspects died, Vitor was the sole survivor. Forensic reports indicate the fatal shot was fired from a .40 S&W caliber weapon, which is consistent with ammunition used by the Military Police, though investigators could not confirm which specific police weapon discharged the round.

The MPSP argues that even if the fatal shot was fired by a police officer, the responsibility for the death lies with the robbery suspects because the death occurred within the risk created by the criminal act. Prosecutors noted that 76 shell casings from the Military Police were recovered at the scene and that the weapons attributed to the suspects were not present during the forensic examination.
