São Paulo records highest September rainfall in 83 years

São Paulo has experienced its heaviest rainfall in 83 years of measurements at the Mirante de Santana station. By late Tuesday, the city recorded 304.6 mm of accumulated rain, surpassing the historical January average of 292 mm and nearly quadrupling the typical September average of 83 mm.

The extreme precipitation was driven by a cold front combined with a polar air mass. While weather conditions are expected to stabilize with sun and rising temperatures by the end of the week, meteorological projections suggest the state of São Paulo will continue to see above-average rainfall throughout the spring season.

The heavy rains have significantly impacted consumer behavior. Data from Shopee indicates a surge in demand for rain-related products compared to August. Searches for silicone shoe covers rose by 380%, pet raincoats increased by 290%, and searches for clothes dryers climbed by 220%. Sales of umbrellas and raincoats also saw increases exceeding 250%.
