São Paulo rescues over 25 abandoned dogs and two puppies in separate incidents

Police, firefighters and municipal teams rescued more than 25 dogs found in deplorable conditions at a property in Ermelino Matarazzo, eastern São Paulo, after the owner allegedly left them without food or water for over a week. The animals were taken to animal‑rights NGOs for care and eventual adoption, and a police investigation was opened.

In Santa Rita do Passa Quatro, an interior city of São Paulo, a veterinarian rescued two male puppies abandoned at a sanitary landfill. The pups, though hungry and infested with fleas and ticks, were in good health and received immediate veterinary care, vaccination, deworming, and will later be neutered, microchipped and placed for adoption. The veterinarian filed a report with the city’s zoonoses department and the case will be forwarded to the local police.

Both incidents highlight ongoing enforcement of Brazil’s animal‑cruelty laws, which classify abandonment as a crime and prescribe prison terms and fines for violators.
