Brazil 2026 elections: Campaign finance and donor profiles emerge
As the 2026 elections approach in Brazil, various reports highlight the complex landscape of campaign financing and resource allocation across different regions and sectors.
In Santa Catarina, Alex Murad, CEO of Beto Carrero World, has emerged as a leading donor, contributing R$ 450,000. He has surpassed businessman Luciano Hang, who has distributed approximately R$ 450,000 among eight candidates in Santa Catarina, Paraná, Tocantins, and the Distrito Federal.
In São Paulo, donor profiles for Senate candidates include real estate officials, entrepreneurs, and financial sector figures. Notably, candidate André do Prado has received significant contributions from his own legislative staff, while Guilherme Derrite has seen substantial support from notary officials.
Environmental concerns have also surfaced, with Greenpeace Brasil reporting that 137 candidates from 21 parties have environmental fines from IBAMA, yet at least 25 of these individuals have accessed over R$ 253 million in rural credit between 2013 and 2026.
Regional resource distribution is also a key focus. In Rio Grande do Sul, political parties are investing up to R$ 17.2 million for legislative seats. In Goiás, Goiânia councilors have raised R$ 11.6 million, largely through party funds. Meanwhile, in Rondônia, candidate Cirone Deiró has directed R$ 10 million in amendments to rural associations to support milk production.
