São Paulo Smart Sampa surveillance system faces new data leak
A security breach in the Smart Sampa monitoring system has allegedly left access to approximately 17,000 cameras available on the internet. According to reports by Portal Uol, the leak included live footage from streets near the residences of high-ranking officials, including Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes and former presidents Michel Temer and Fernando Henrique Cardoso.
This incident marks the second security failure for the platform in less than a month. A previous breach reported in October reportedly left over 50,000 cameras exposed for 11 months. The São Paulo City Hall has denied that the data was publicly accessible, stating that the information was a cybersecurity analysis spreadsheet and that its transmission to the media was an illegal act involving confidential data.
The Smart Sampa system, which features over 50,000 cameras across the capital, is currently under scrutiny. Entities have requested an investigation by the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) regarding the handling of personal data. Security experts have called for the suspension of cameras in sensitive locations, such as schools and health units, following the breach.
