São Paulo SP City Marathon 2026 closes major roads as elite runners compete

The 10th edition of the SP City Marathon took place on Sunday, 26, with the start at 5:15 a.m. in the Pacaembu area of São Paulo and the finish at the Jockey Club in Cidade Jardim. The marathon route crossed 18 neighborhoods, prompting the CET to block a series of streets—from Avenida Ipiranga to Avenida Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek—until about 2:00 p.m. and to provide alternative traffic itineraries.

Around 30,000 runners, both professional and amateur, participated. Rio Preto was represented by three elite athletes—Victor Andrade (full marathon), Gilmar Lopes and Matheus Xavier (half marathon)—who ran under the ARPA‑SMEL "Correndo Para o Futuro" project, supported by local sports authorities and Instituto Rodobens. The elite start was scheduled for 5:45 a.m., and the event featured medical stations, hydration points and musical entertainment along the course.
