São Paulo state launches 12 new mobile meal units and expands farm‑to‑school purchases

The São Paulo state government is expanding its food‑security initiatives. Starting 27 July 2026, twelve new Bom Prato Móvel units will operate across the capital and surrounding areas, each able to serve about 300 meals daily at a symbolic price of R$ 1.00. The mobile kitchens, equipped to keep food fresh, aim to increase access to nutritious meals for vulnerable residents.

In parallel, the Programa Paulista da Agricultura de Interesse Social (PPAIS) requires at least 30 % of the state’s public food‑procurement budget to be spent on products from family farms. The scheme opens a direct market for small producers—including traditional farmers, quilombola, indigenous and artisanal fishing communities—allowing each to sell up to R$ 208 000 of produce and dairy per year to schools, hospitals, prisons and social‑assistance centers.

Both measures are designed to improve nutritional access for low‑income populations while providing stable income for local agricultural families.
