São Paulo state logs record spending on housing, health and security

Over the past three and a half years, the government of São Paulo has pursued an agenda of structural transformation. It delivered 86,000 new homes and kept 116,000 more under construction, including the resettlement of more than 800 families from the former Favela do Moinho. The Casa Paulista program now provides roughly 70 families each day with a dwelling, marking the largest housing effort in the state’s history.

In health, the new SUS Table injected more than R$9.7 billion, enabling 3.5 million elective surgeries and tripling primary‑care investment to over R$1.3 billion. Education saw 1.7 million students benefit from the renovation of 3,500 schools, an increase in technical‑high‑school places to 321,000 and a program that sent 2,000 public‑school pupils abroad for language immersion. Security was strengthened by hiring 16,000 new police officers and deploying the Muralha Paulista system of 125,000 cameras and sensors across the state. A privatization plan for water utility Sabesp aims to mobilise R$260 billion to universalise water and sewage services by the end of the decade.
