São Paulo state opens new hospital in Peruíbe and forensic institute in Presidente Prudente

The São Paulo state government inaugurated the Hospital Municipal de Peruíbe on 18 May, investing more than R$ 128 million in construction and equipment. The first phase offers 20 beds—including a medical clinic and an adult ICU—and will expand to 70 beds with added pediatric, surgical and pediatric ICU units, serving Peruíbe and neighboring municipalities such as Itanhaém, Mongaguá, Itariri and Pedro de Toledo. Additional health funding was announced for the Santa Casa de Santos—ten new neurological ICU beds with over R$ 108 million in transfers—and a R$ 30 million allocation to Guarujá and São Vicente.

On 23 May, the state also opened a new Institute of Medical‑Legal Sciences (IML) and a criminalistics hub in Presidente Prudente, part of a broader R$ 51 million security‑infrastructure program in the western region. The facilities aim to boost forensic capabilities, while parallel upgrades include a R$ 4.5 million police precinct renovation, a R$ 9.3 million judicial police headquarters, and new equipment for drug‑seizure operations that have confiscated over 107 tons of narcotics since 2023. The rollout adds 241 security personnel and 113 new patrol vehicles, enhancing public safety across the area.
