São Paulo to expand full-time education program by 2027

The São Paulo state government has announced plans to expand its full-time education program, aiming to have more than half of its schools operating on a full-time basis by 2027. This timeline anticipates the target set by the National Education Plan (PNE), which aims for 50% of Brazilian schools to adopt the model by 2030.

The State Secretariat of Education (Seduc-SP) projects that 2,615 schools, representing 51.44% of the network, will participate in the Integral Teaching Program (PEI). This expansion is expected to benefit approximately 1.2 million students. Compared to 2022, the number of schools in the program is set to increase by 28%, while total enrollments are projected to grow by 47%.

In terms of student coverage, the state aims to reach 40% of its 3 million enrolled students in expanded learning sessions, surpassing the national goal of 35%. The expansion is being supported by the construction of new state schools and the second phase of the 'Novas Escolas' Public-Private Partnership (PPP). Cities such as Aguaí, Araras, Ribeirão Preto, and São José dos Campos are already utilizing these new structures.
