São Paulo vehicle licensing and traffic restrictions

Vehicle owners in the state of São Paulo face upcoming deadlines for mandatory licensing and daily traffic restrictions.

According to Detran-SP, vehicle licensing for license plates ending in 7 and 8 is mandatory during October. The licensing fee is R$ 174.08, and owners must also settle any outstanding IPVA taxes or fines to complete the process. Failure to comply with licensing requirements is considered a very serious infraction, punishable by a R$ 293.47 fine, seven points on the driver's license, and vehicle impoundment.

Separately, the municipal vehicle rotation system in the city of São Paulo is in effect. On this Monday, restrictions apply to vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 within the Expanded Center during the morning (7:00 to 10:00) and evening (17:00 to 20:00) periods. Violating these rotation rules results in a medium infraction, including a R$ 130.16 fine and four points on the driver's license.
