São Paulo woman to face jury trial for alleged poisoning of daughter and daughter-in-law
The Court of Justice of São Paulo has ruled that Elizabete Arrabaça, 68, will face a jury trial for qualified homicide and procedural fraud. She is accused of poisoning her daughter, Nathália Garnica, 42, with carbofurano (commonly known as ‘chumbinho’) in the city of Pontal.
Arrabaça is also accused of involvement in the death of her daughter-in-law, Larissa Rodrigues, a 37-year-old Pilates instructor who died in Ribeirão Preto. Prosecutors allege that Arrabaça and her son, physician Luiz Antônio Garnica, 38, conspired to poison Rodrigues to prevent the division of assets and allow Luiz to pursue a relationship with a mistress. Luiz Antônio Garnica will also face a jury trial for the death of his wife.
The prosecution claims the motive was financial, alleging that Arrabaça faced significant debt due to a gambling addiction and relied on her daughter for financial assistance. During interrogation, Arrabaça denied the allegations, claiming innocence and stating she had no knowledge of the poison found in her daughter’s body. She maintained that she visited her daughter because she felt unwell with suspected dengue fever.
