São Paulo Zoo welcomes three maned wolf pups

The Zoológico de São Paulo introduced three newborn maned wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) cubs to visitors on July 30, 2026. The cubs were born on May 26, 2026 to the breeding pair Pitanga and Caju, whose first litter arrived in May 2025. The young wolves have spent the first weeks under the care of their mother and zoo biologists before being moved to the public exhibit.

The birth is part of the zoo's species‑conservation program aimed at protecting the vulnerable maned wolf, a key symbol of Brazil's Cerrado. The zoo plans a public vote to name the three cubs, highlighting ongoing efforts to preserve the species amid habitat loss and road mortality.
