São Pedro da Aldeia resumes municipal football championship

The Adult Municipal Field Football Championship has returned to São Pedro da Aldeia after a hiatus of more than 20 years. Organized by the Municipal Secretariat of Sport and Leisure, the tournament officially opened on Sunday at the São Pedro Esporte Clube (SPEC) field.

Eight teams are participating in the competition: Esporte Clube Nacional, Esporte Clube Brasil, Grêmio Cancela, Cruz Futebol Clube, Novo Hamburgo F. C., São Pedro Esporte Clube, Porto Real F. C., and Rodoviário F. C. Matches will be held at the SPEC field in the Center and the Cruzeiro field in Campo Redondo.

In the opening match, Esporte Clube Brasil defeated Esporte Clube Nacional 1-0, with the winning goal scored by Dioguinho. A second scheduled match did not take place; Grêmio Cancela was awarded a win by forfeit (WO) after Cruz Futebol Clube failed to appear within the permitted 15-minute grace period. The incident has been recorded and will be referred to the championship's Disciplinary Board.

The tournament features two groups of four teams, with the top two from each group advancing to the semifinals. Local officials expressed hope that the tournament will become a permanent fixture in the city's sporting calendar.
