São Tomé e Príncipe fuel shortage expected to last another week
The fuel shortage in São Tomé e Príncipe is expected to persist for at least another week, according to Minister of Economy and Finance Gareth Guadalupe. While previous projections suggested gasoline and petroleum would arrive this week, the minister stated that, at best, these supplies should arrive by next Wednesday.
The scarcity is impacting multiple sectors, including transportation, fishing, and domestic cooking. The lack of domestic petroleum is forcing many families to seek alternatives like charcoal or firewood, increasing household expenses. Additionally, the shortage is affecting the fishing industry and contributing to rising food prices in local markets.
To combat illegal sales, Guadalupe announced that the National Police have been instructed to identify and shut down any gas stations or containers found supplying unauthorized street vendors.
