São Vicente medical care questioned after death of cleaning assistant

The family of Kellen Rodrigues Silveira, a 43-year-old cleaning assistant, is questioning the medical care provided at the Pronto-Socorro Central in São Vicente, Brazil, following her death. After feeling unwell at home, Silveira was treated by SAMU and taken to the health unit.

There are conflicting accounts regarding the treatment. While a medical professional reportedly diagnosed high blood pressure and prescribed medication, Silveira’s daughter claims the patient experienced severe headaches, vomiting with blood, and fell while seeking help. The daughter criticized the lack of in-depth imaging exams before the patient was released.

Conversely, the São Vicente Municipal Health Secretariat stated that the patient was conscious and oriented during the initial evaluation. The administration maintains that Silveira was expected to return for a follow-up evaluation after receiving medication but left the facility without doing so. The case has been registered as a suspicious death and is under investigation by the Central de Polícia Judiciária in Santos.
