Sober enables Roblox gameplay on Linux without Wine

Linux users can now run Roblox without the need for Wine, thanks to a new unofficial third-party runtime called Sober. Developed as part of the Vinegar project, Sober is a specialized runtime designed specifically for Roblox code, offering a more streamlined experience than traditional compatibility layers.

Sober provides access to all PC-only features, including chat, sound, and game browsing. Developers claim that performance on Linux can be the same as or even better than the Windows client on identical hardware. The tool is currently available exclusively through Flathub.

Because Sober is an unofficial tool, it is not supported or approved by Roblox Corporation. While the developers state that normal use rarely results in moderation actions, server-side changes could potentially impact its functionality. Additionally, the project is not open-source, a decision made by the Vinegar team to reduce the potential for abuse.
