Sobral reports 69.2% drop in violent crimes for August

Sobral, Ceará, recorded a 69.2% decrease in Intentional Lethal Violent Crimes (CVLIs) in August 2026 compared to the same month in the previous year. Official data from the Ceará Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (SSPDS-CE) shows that four such crimes occurred in August 2026, down from 13 in August 2025.

The reduction follows a broader downward trend for the year. Between January and August 2026, Sobral recorded 45 CVLIs, a 40% decrease from the 75 occurrences reported during the same period in 2025. The CVLI category includes homicides, feminicides, bodily injury resulting in death, and robbery followed by death.
