SOCAR to end car-sharing operations in Malaysia
The on-demand car-sharing platform SOCAR will cease its operations in Malaysia on August 31, 2026, following eight years of service. Users have begun receiving notifications via the application regarding the shutdown.
As of August 15, 2026, the SOCAR app has stopped accepting new monthly pass subscriptions and Wallet top-ups. Customers with remaining Wallet balances can request full refunds, while those with existing subscriptions will receive prorated refunds for the remaining term.
The closure applies specifically to SOCAR’s fleet-based service. Its peer-to-peer car-sharing platform, TREVO, will continue to operate in Malaysia. While SOCAR provided vehicles at various locations such as shopping malls and transportation hubs for hourly rentals, TREVO allows individual vehicle owners to rent their cars to others.
Launched in Malaysia in 2018, SOCAR held a significant market share, with SK Inc reporting approximately 1.9 million members in 2023.
