Soccer clubs implement measures against counterfeit goods and ticket scalping

Major soccer clubs are implementing various strategies to combat fraudulent activities, ranging from counterfeit merchandise to ticket scalping.

In South Africa, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Mamelodi Sundowns are utilizing social media to raise awareness about fake kits. These clubs are using online engagement and visual comparisons to educate fans on how to identify genuine merchandise, aiming to protect brand integrity and financial stability.

In the United Kingdom, Manchester United has taken aggressive action against ticket misuse and scalping. The club reported suspending 685 ticketing accounts and issuing warnings to 464 supporters following an investigation into abnormal activity. The club stated these measures are intended to ensure fair access for genuine supporters and combat organized networks profiting from ticket resale.

However, the crackdown has faced backlash from the fan group ‘The 1958’, which has labeled the club’s actions as coercive. The group claims that loyal supporters are being penalized without clear evidence and has organized protests in response to the club’s enforcement tactics.
