Social and financial challenges persist in Moldova and Romania

In Moldova, individuals with hearing impairments face significant societal barriers, including a severe shortage of professional support. There are only approximately 20 authorized sign language interpreters available to serve thousands of people. This scarcity complicates essential tasks such as medical visits, emergency calls, and legal or financial interactions. Additionally, employment remains a major challenge, as many employers are hesitant to hire those with hearing disabilities, leading to concerns about migration to Europe for better opportunities.

In Romania, a study conducted by Allianz-Țiriac and the Center for Urban and Regional Sociology (CURS) reveals a gap between risk awareness and financial preparation. While many Romanians recognize the potential impact of health issues or job loss, 60% feel unprepared to face significant budget-affecting situations this year. Approximately 52% of respondents are delaying the creation of emergency funds, and 49% are postponing the purchase of optional insurance for life, health, or housing. The primary obstacles to financial stability include the rising cost of living, lack of savings, and immediate spending needs like food and bills.
