Social and urban development initiatives advance in Uruguay and Chile
In Uruguay, the Ministry of Social Development (MIDES) has concluded the first stage of its ‘Comunidad a la plaza’ program in Lavalleja. Following three months of territorial work, the initiative held closing activities in José Batlle y Ordóñez, Barrio La Filarmónica, and Barrio La Coronilla. The program aims to bring social policies directly to neighborhoods to better understand local needs and foster direct links with residents through fairs, local music, and institutional presence.
In Chile, the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (MINVU) announced significant investments for urban renewal in the Loa and Olivarera neighborhoods of Arica. Through the ‘Quiero Mi Barrio’ program, projects are underway to improve the Cotacotani multi-court and construct the Los Plátanos public space. The Cotacotani project involves a budget exceeding 500 million pesos to renovate sports infrastructure, lighting, and landscaping, while the Los Plivarera initiative focuses on transforming vacant lots into accessible green areas with pedestrian walkways and play zones.
