Brazil: Diverse initiatives support elderly population
Various municipalities and organizations across Brazil are implementing programs to support the country's aging population. In Apucarana, the ‘Outubro da Vitalidade’ project concluded with a walk at Lago Jaboti, impacting over 650 seniors through diverse activities including physical exercise, theater, and social integration.
In Macaé, the ‘Viva 60+’ event celebrated the elderly with musical performances, while Sesc Ceará hosted an integrated meeting in Fortaleza to discuss longevity and care networks. Educational and professional opportunities are also being expanded, such as the University for the Elderly (UNAPI) in Marilândia do Sul and entrepreneurship workshops for seniors organized by Sebrae Acre.
Legal and social protections remain a focus. The Public Defender's Office in Amazonas is actively combating ageism and guiding victims of discrimination. Additionally, various cities are utilizing social assistance centers (CRAS) to provide specialized services, including physiotherapy, memory activities, and social integration through cultural events and fashion shows.
