Social assistance programs expand in Cuenca and Los Realejos
In Cuenca, Spain, the City Council has expanded its support for vulnerable families through personal training workshops. Part of the Project for Intervention with Families in Situations of Vulnerability and Social Maladaptation, the program is being implemented in collaboration with the association Acuaprende. Co-financed by the Junta de Comunidades and the European Social Fund Plus (FSE+), the initiative utilizes a multidisciplinary team of psychologists and social educators to teach communication skills, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution.
Demand for these specialized services in Cuenca has risen from 11 users in 2024 to 19 currently. The program aims to move beyond traditional welfare by providing families with tools to improve domestic coexistence and socio-labor insertion.
In Los Realejos, the association AFEDES is managing five distinct projects focused on social aid and labor insertion. These initiatives include the distribution of essential goods to low-income households, the 'Incorpora Canarias' program for people with disabilities, and digital skills training through the 'Trabajando en digital' project. Additionally, 'Afedes Joven en Acción' supports youth employability and entrepreneurship, while the Punto de Autoempleo Incorpora (PAI) provides guidance for new business ventures. These efforts are coordinated with local municipal departments to promote personal autonomy and employment access.
