Social connection and the psychological importance of being useful

Explorations into human psychology and social behavior highlight the importance of connection and the feeling of being useful to others. Drawing on the principles of Alfred Adler, the founder of individual psychology, it is noted that finding ways to help or bring joy to others can alleviate feelings of inferiority and melancholy, fostering a sense of belonging and personal pride.

In a practical social context, the barriers to human interaction are often self-imposed, such as the tendency to use digital devices to avoid eye contact in public spaces. An anecdotal experiment in a restaurant, where patrons were encouraged to share a single table, demonstrated that breaking these invisible walls through simple conversation can significantly improve social atmosphere and reduce feelings of isolation.
