Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu expelled from Social Democracy Association

The Social Democracy Association (SDD) has expelled Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), from its membership. SDD President Sami Doğan stated that the decision was made by the association's Honor Board following an investigation into Kılıçdaroğlu’s statements and actions, which were deemed contrary to the association's established programs and principles.

The expulsion has triggered a wave of resignations from prominent CHP figures. Rahmi Aşkın Türeli, a CHP Group Deputy Chairman, resigned in protest, stating that the decision was incompatible with the principles of free thought and pluralistic democracy. Other officials, including Mehmet Tüm, Yaşar Seyman, and Faik Öztrak, also announced their resignations from the SDD.

In response to the expulsion, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Sevda Erdan Kılıç criticized the SDD leadership, arguing that the decision contradicts the values of honesty and the fight against corruption that Kılıçdaroğlu has long defended. She suggested that the expulsion reflects the association's own understanding of social democracy rather than Kılıçdaroğlu's identity.
