Social Democratic Party expands organization and discusses education policy
The Social Democratic Party (TDP) has expanded its organizational presence with the opening of its Geçitkale branch. During the opening, TDP Chairman Zeki Çeler emphasized the party's long-standing political tradition and called on those who have contributed to the movement in the past to reunite under the party's banner. Party officials, including Mağusa District Chair Olgu Tansuğ and Geçitkale Branch Chair Kemal Önür, highlighted the importance of strengthening the party's grassroots structure.
In a separate development, TDP leadership met with a delegation from the Cyprus Turkish Teachers' Union (KTÖS) to discuss critical issues within the education system. The discussions focused on teacher shortages, overcrowded and container-based classrooms, school infrastructure, and the future of public education.
A significant portion of the meeting addressed appointments and assignments at the Atatürk Teacher Academy (AÖA). KTÖS raised concerns regarding a lack of transparency and public job postings in recent assignments. Zeki Çeler stated that education should not be a topic reserved only for election periods, asserting that TDP's policies prioritize meritocracy, equal opportunity, and high-quality public education.
