Social dialogue and labor rights updates in Martinique and Cameroon

In Martinique, the Carrefour du dialogue social meeting held on October 22, 2026, addressed the state of labor relations and the need for updated industry agreements. Prefect Étienne Desplanques noted that while some sectors, such as construction, maintain productive dialogue despite economic difficulties, many existing branch agreements are outdated and fail to reflect current realities. The meeting emphasized the importance of continuous negotiation between employers and employees to adapt to a changing work environment.

In Cameroon, the water utility company Camwater announced the full settlement of its social rights arrears, totaling 4.53 billion FCFA. This payment covers end-of-career indemnities accumulated between January 2016 and October 2022, as well as commitments through October 2026. The funds will benefit 311 retirees. Alongside these social advancements, Camwater is pursuing infrastructure projects to increase water production capacity, including a goal to raise output at the Japoma station from 55,000 to 123,000 m³ per day by the end of 2026.
